Mom and I were without power and heat in middle of winter after an ice storm in 2004/2005. We were 20 days getting it back. Was during Chrstmas and New Years. Living in the country, we could not draw water from the well, so could not use the bathroom either. Part of the time, weather was below freezing, so put stuff from freezer onto porch to keep it frozen. Then, it warmed up to 60! we lost all the stuff in the freezer, but didn't have to keep feeding the basement wood stove. I was still working then. My Mom about went crazy here alone while I worked second shift. Pretty boring with no electric at night for one day shy of 3 weeks. Neighbors had theirs on after about 10 days. We had a blown transformer, and had to wait till they got around to individual people. Gives you a good appreciation for modern amenities!
