Hey Daylily Gang! All of us gardeners enjoy sharing what we're up to, in our own slice of the gardening world, so here it is! A thread in the Daylily Forum! Group hug Even though it's in the Daylily Forum, us daylily lovers work on all aspects of the garden. Hard scape, companion planting, etc., and all of it enhances our daylilies!!

I'll start with yesterday's work......
The weather here in Northeast Ohio has been incredibly gorgeous, these past several days, and today will be no exception! I'll preclude things with a little back-story: As you may or may not know, a huge branch of one of our nearly 100 year old trees came down, in 50mph wind gusts, early on, this Spring. The entire tree was removed. It was completely hollow in the huge trunk, and up into the branch that came down. During the removal process, a litter of 3 kittens was discovered in the hollow trunk. Their mama took off, when there was about 10 feet left to cut down, and with those chainsaws roaring so close! The kittens were extracted, before the tree was finished off, and they are with a surrogate mama cat and thriving! We didn't have the roots ground bc of expense and the trunk was so big, there was plenty of space within the hollow area to finish a central area of the garden that was already surrounding the tree! Whistling Whistling Whistling

So the central area, of the already surrounding garden, received a, (unfortunately) very small seedling size, 'Color Guard' Yucca, as a nice broad leaf evergreen, for a central focal point, which will eventually grow to 4-5 feet wide. I also added 9 'The President' canna, and 9 new and transplanted daylilies!!

Yesterday, I added 6 more daylilies and three golden yellow canna. I am so excited to see how this garden will look, as the growing season progresses!

So the daylilies that occupy that garden now are:
(3) 'Coral Majority'
'Bam'
'Feminine Fingers'
'Funky Blues'
'Plum Tuckered'
'Lily Munster'
'Monkey Shine'
'Moroccan Sapphire'
'Lilac Moonshine'
'Electric Lizard'
'Chesapeake Crablegs'
There's two more....gotta go check....stay tuned

I laugh because the DH looked at my buckets of a whopping 12 new daylilies, and he said that it looked like an awful lot of plants and he was wondering where on earth they would go! I told him that daylilies really don't take up that much room!! He looked at me like I was crazy!! nodding Whistling Whistling

Yesterday, after I was done in that garden, I explained that there are now 15 daylilies, 12 Canna, and a Yucca, all surrounded by 'Silver Falls' Lamium, he was dumbfounded! Hilarious! It was one of those "I told you so" moments between a husband and wife that was a beautiful thing!! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I still have to plant 'Divergent', a gift daylily from Bob Selman, and 2 clumps of 'Fred Manning' and 4 specimens of Blue Fescue that will have a new home to wrap up my annual musical gardens fiasco! Finally, I have a red hydrangea that my Mother gave me for Mother's Day to plant. So that will wrap up what's left of things that, at least, still need a new home! Hurray!

I may divide one clump of Fred Manning and gift them out... Smiling

Edited 7.17.17:
The Color Guard Yucca, that I spoke of, was replaced with a larger one that was growing elsewhere in the gardens. It's approximately 10 inches in diameter, and it's a much nicer specimen to start with in this garden!
