Hi!
back! May every moment find you deeply blessed!
Around the house I am the Queen of Spray Paint. So now I have these thrift finds that I want to pretty up. I started with the short wide one. That one was in the worst shape because it had been used as a fire pit. I was going to gain experience working with galvanized metal. I used a small sharp nail and hammer to put in 6 holes. Then I took the giant nail and enlarged the holes. The container was ready to be painted.
1)Take dish detergent and a brush to wash it
2) Wipe inside and out with vinegar.
3) SOS pad or steel wool scrub and rinse
4) Again wipe inside and out with vinegar, do not rinse let vinegar dry on
5) Let it thoroughly dry
6) Spray with metal primer for galvanized metal-- 1 can of paint primer barely covered this inside and out
7) The bottom and lower inside will not show so I used an old can
of spray paint for those areas. That stretched my one can of color.
8) Spray a couple of coats of paint
9) Let the paint cure.
My concern for a metal container is that it will be hotter than plastic or Terra cotta. Texas heat
I set both of these in the sun side by side.
The pleasant surprise was the painted one did get warm, but it did not get as hot as the unpainted one.
Originally I had thought of leaving it as is and putting holes in the bottom. It was a little challenging worrying about the galvanized metal. I like the color better and hope the paint will help the container to last longer.
Now it is curing while I dream of what plants I want to put in it.
May you be blessed to be successful in all you do!
