Blooms mid to late May. Possibly biennial. Set bloom last year, but this year only leaves were showing.

These plants are growing along the lane in partial (high) shade. I'd estimate the soil there to be average, and possibly a bit dry.

This plant just showed up here last year, so I only have 2 seasons worth of experience with it.

I haven't seen it growing anywhere else in the vicinity so I'm guessing it's an introduction.
