Lin, I like a lot of spring color in my garden and want there to be waves of things in bloom. So I start with the spring bulbs like daffodils and tulips. Then the next big bloom are the iris blooming. Meanwhile lots of spring flowering shrubs and small trees like crabapples. After the iris the lilies start and different ones keep blooming at various times until mid summer. Soon after the asiatic lilies (the first bloomers) the roses come on with the spring flush which really is show stopping. They rebloom again in August as I cut them back after spring blooming. After the roses the daylilies come in bloom so you see there really is a lot of color here. But it took me ten years of hard work to get to this point. Before that I had pretty much a typical surban backyard yard.
