I have used an early spring treatment and cut own on the slug populaion in my hostas.
Mix 1 to 10 parts Household Amonia and Water,pour this around the hosta eyes as they emerge in spring. Sails and slugs hatching at thet time underground wont make it to see the light of day.
It's not a complete cure but the armies of slugs here is smaller han it was.
