I do love the velcro ties. After the iris have finished blooming I undo the velcro, pull the stake, then rewrap the piece of velcro around its stake before storing. That way it's ready to go, with a precut piece of velcro, for the next bloom season. Also, I think that the velcro is gentler around the iris stalk than a twist tie - snug, but gentle. I think the velcro is also easier to fasten and unfasten, for arthritic hands.
