I was one of the first 300 contributors to the plant database!
Betty - The seedling to the right of Dry Heat is closer to a tomato red. The parents of DH is PURE INDULGANCE X RED FRIDAY and the color leans toward PI this daylily will be for hybridizing mostly though it does have good garden presents.

Ann - I hope you are getting around better soon! We all work on a tight schedule and I can only imagine how hard it must be not being able to work your seedling beds at the end of the season. I hope you get a nice surprise from some of those second year seedlings you may have removed!

Margaret - The first seedling is one of my favorites simple, but elegant,

Mona - The Phoenix area is an arid region but creating a micro climate is easy lots of sunshine, add good soil drainage, ample water, some afternoon shade daylilies will grow very well. Rust will not live in dry conditions so keeping rust in the desert is very difficult. One of the problems with hybridizing in the desert not knowing what seedlings may be rust resistant and which seedlings may be rust magnets.

I think one of the best true reds is HEARTS OF FIRE it is a very hardy daylily and good parent....
