I have read similar advice from different experts. They all say one can have too many eyes for a meager root system to feed. I follow the advice to try to have at least 2 or 3 roots attached to a crown of not more than 4 or 5 eyes. I guess that is where the term 3 to 5 eyes for a high quality division comes from.
