Jo Ann what is your growing zone? They are hardy down to -20°F. They should do well for you. They love to be planted under the canopy of evergreen trees and shrubs.

DH is great for finding solutions to my gardening problems. The gate was one of them. : )

Becky, the wonderful part of gardening is each area has things that will grow well, but maybe not in another area. That is why all of our gardens have different kinds of plants. There are many things I can't grow because of our long rainy season and shorter summers with cool nights.
