Well I know your oak has some size on him now!
On the north side of my house I had two large water oaks shading that side. I planted tea olives and gardenias along the fence line. The shrubs did fine but 5yrs ago winds took out those oaks and the shrubs exploded. The tea olives were 5ft in the shade now 7 ft tall. Even when short they bloom in the fall and spring with that intoxicating fragrance. Yummy!
