I have Eucomis comosa 'Sparkling Burgundy', and in 5 years it has increased from 1 to 3 very large bulbs. My Eucomis send up only one tall, pinkish bloom stalk, in mid-summer, which remains attractive until cold temp sends the plant into dormancy. Grown in well-draining soil, I water weekly---too much water causes the long leaves to becoming floppy. I fertilize monthly. It does not like to be crowded. I don't mulch in the winter (Z8B), but I shall start this winter, to see if it comes back earlier in the spring. Since Sparkling Burgundy is large for a Eucomis, I grow it in my black and white garden as a specimen plant. I love this easy plant!

Probably too much information, but the plant is so striking and attractive, and none of my gardening friends grow it, so I have the urge to enthuse about it!
When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it . . . it's your world for the moment.
