I have tried growing from seed a few times. Only very fresh seed germinated, never bought seed. Last year there were some plants available locally. I bought a few but only one overwintered. When I got them home, the Columbine were also in bloom. They happened to be the same color and I found they had the same effect in the garden especially from a little distance.. Also the flowers photograph well but they are small in real life. I mention that not to talk you out of them but just so you aren't disappointed when you see them for the first time.
