Well, it's entirely up to you.
But you're right, with the description in place, you could just search for "blue" or "red" into that field. Yes, as I think of it, maybe we should do away with the color checkboxes and just rely on the color description. If you want, I can disable it but not delete it. Then it won't show up but if we change our mind, all I have to do is re-enable it and we won't have lost anything.
