That's my life too. I always went to New Year's parties in clubs, then started going out to dinner instead when the party life got to be too much, and finally chose to stay inside on New Year's Eve. Too many drunks on the road.

Budget cuts have slashed my contract to the point that I'm essentially retired this year, so I should have much more time to devote to the garden, the house, and the cats. For one thing, I'm going to strive for a more decent living schedule. I've been staying up working until 6:00 or 7:00 in the morning and getting up in the afternoon, which has left very little time for gardening when the days are short. I've always had a body clock that worked better at night, but I think I'll strive to get to bed by 2:00 from now on.
