I did a massive repotting of my pot grown plants this summer and fall. I can honestly say that sometimes it's easier to leave a plant as a double than it is to try to divide it. This will be the plants that grow attached to the crown of the mother plant.

When plants grow off a stolon they will divide into single fans easily, most of the time. I had many many plants that the single fan was so large that I had to only put one fan into a 3 gallon pot. It wouldn't hold 2 fans. I think that most of these huge fans will divide into two fans by next Spring.

I understand that most growers use the term for "Double Fan ie: db fan" as two fans attached to each other.

2 fans usually are single fans that grow seperately or can mean 2 that had been joined but were divided in the process of dividing the clump.

A single fan may or may not have been attached to another fan, but still means one fan.

I just went to the terms dictionary on the AHS site and could not verify this info, soooooo please correct me where I'm wrong. I'm new at the selling end of the daylily world and still have huge bunches to learn.

Blessings to all, Mona
