New microwave got here and was installed about 10:30 a.m. yesterday. Of course the two guys that did it made it look ridiculously easy and were in and out in 15 minutes!
Thrilled with it and it seems to be just fine. Even they said the same thing and that is appliances now days are designed to fail anywhere from 3 to 6 years after you buy them. You are not going to find stuff built like it used to be or made to last. Anyhow, I'm just grateful to have mine back and that I could afford to replace it. I think it looks pretty good.
I'm with you Sean. Cheese on shrimp just doesn't work.
Kind of odd tasting. The only exception is something like a seafood/shrimp enchilada where it is covered or baked in a melted white, mild creamy cheese sauce. Or just a sprinkling of Queso Fresco on fried shrimp with crispy cabbage when making a shrimp taco. Otherwise just liberally sprinkling shredded cheese on shrimp gives it an odd chalky taste in my opinion.
The shrimp is going to be today as my husband and I took a kind of 'U-turn' in the kitchen yesterday. We saw these AMAZING pork chops in the grocery store for less than $5.00. Two ginormous bone in, 1" thick chops that were in a package of two for less than $5.00 and they were just screaming to come home with us so we indulged them.
Decided to do something Italian and make what I kind of call Pork Chops Italiano. Very easy and tasty meal and done on the stove top in a very deep skillet.
Seasoned the chops with salt, cayenne, garlic powder and just a little ground thyme. Set them aside. In one tablespoon of olive oil I cook up 2 cups of thinly sliced fresh mushrooms and removed them and set them aside. Added 2 Tablespoons olive oil and seared the chops about 5-7 minutes per side on medium. Removed them from pan. Sauteed a finely chopped onion and garlic. Then deglazed the pan with red wine and good quality diced tomatoes in juice and added the usual seasonings: basil, oregano, salt, pepper, parsley, etc. Returned the chops to the pan along with one each red, yellow and green sliced bell pepper and let finish cook 20 minutes covered. The last 10 minutes tossed the mushrooms back in. While all this was cooking I made linguine.
Here is the end results garnished with fresh grated Parmesan cheese, parsley and basil.
Pork chops were fall off the bone, cut with a fork tender and done through.
Now I purposely doubled the sauce and peppers so that I would have left over today. I am going to grill a lot of shrimp today. Part will be added to the sauce and serve over linguine with a side salad for today's dinner.
The other half will be for tomorrows shrimp soft tacos with black beans.
Those chops were so huge that there is still half a one left from my dinner and a third left over from the husband's. We can eat that for lunch or whenever we are hungry in between or he can take it to work for his lunch. Really a great recipe though and super easy, impressive and company worthy.
Gotta fly and start the day. Going to church and then out to breakfast. Catch you all later this afternoon.
Happy day.
