As long as the hummingbirds are present, the feeders are out and refreshed almost every other to every three days. If the least bit of sourness is detected, the feeder is scrubbed and refilled with fresh.
Edit to add... We do have salvia, shrimp plant and other plantings the hummingbirds love so.
