I keep THINKING I am finished....
I plan on redoing the garden in front of my house that is currently filled with 40 year old overgrown evergreens. It is a south facing brick wall. That is where I plan on planting the few tender evergreens that I have purchased. Granted, my first couple of years I had no clue what EV meant!!!! I mean, I understood it meant Evergreen, just didn't comprehend the difference between dormant & evergreen when it comes to northern gardens.
I had hoped to pull those evergreens and re-landscape last season - but I lost a couple of trees in late spring, and the money I had earmarked for that went to removing those trees. I am hoping this year is better. Luckily, since those EV's are all still in pots, it's been a pretty mild winter (for my area) so far.
Also, both Yabba Dabba Do (this week) and Wild Horses (late last summer) were bought on the LA for very little amounts of money - and with Yabba Dabba Do, I already have fans coming from that seller - so minimum shipping charge. I have no problem at least trying them up here in Wisconsin. I am a lot more careful with EV, SEV & DOR when I purchase more expensive plants.
I have 4 Trimmer plants, 2 are EV (Wild Horses & Tusk) and 2 are SEV's (Sargent Major & Small Carbon Footprint) SM came from the local daylily club sale, so I know it will be OK. The other ones, it's too soon to tell. I would be sad to lose Tusk, but felt it was worth giving it a try.
I also believe that not only are the same zones, different in other areas, but I believe microclimates & soil can also contribute to some surviving some places and not others.~Jan
