I am sure Dave will come along and explain it but the 3 letter names give a lot more possibilities and doesn't narrow it down to the single entry.
In the meantime, bookmark & use this beta search page, I think you will love it.

As soon as you type, it starts bringing up different cultivar possibilities, Ram pops right to the top.
