I was happy that the tree peonies survived. Last year's winter (20010 - 2011) crushed them under 5 to 6 feet of heavy wet snow. The lavender on was knocked down flat but still bloomed on the old wood 2.5 feet from the roots and put up a fresh flush of new stems from the roots. So now it's a 3 - 4 foot wide plant. Have you ever heard of tree peonies rooting from the stems?
