Chestine Goudy peony. Very old, think the date when I looked it up was 1898?
correct me if I am wrong.

Oh yes, but that man is busier than a cat on a hot tin roof.
He is in charge of his company's plant in Atlanta also now. Will be good to see him at Arlene's and see what he has up his sleeve for plants and what is blooming.

Howdy all Smiling Long time no see! What wonderful peony pictures - can I add mine as they bloom Smiling ?

OK Diann I have some time now since I am on vacation so am following your suggestion!

kniphofia, love your FM - and Maxine, you have outdone yourself - especially love the "Old fashipned" peony by the fence - that is killer!

Here is my 4-year old Abalone Pearl - bought from Klehm - this one has done really well and I have a couple of others in the side and back yards - really a good choice for the south and a very early bloomer; only disadvantage is that the blooms can fade to white very quickly when it is sunny. This one had no blooms 1st year, three 2nd year, six 3rd year, and ten buds this year.

This is "America" - got from Klehm last fall but already produced three viable buds first year. Not normally a big fan of red singles but this one has completely changed my attitude towards that - even on a first-year plant the flower is HUGE and bright red and absolutely no sun fading after having been open for several days. This one is a keeper.

This one is 'Burma Joy" in its second year, also from Klem - only produced two buds this year and three last year, but there is a lot more foliage this year as opposed to very little last year so the plant should be getting stronger. Just starting to open. Took this picture as well as the two above it this morning.

This is "Garden Treasure" I got from Hollingsworth this past fall - three buds. I have only one other Itoh, Bartzella that I got from Adelman two falls ago. This is the first time I have ordered from Hollingsworth and overall seems like this year I have higher first-year bud counts on their plants than on those from either Klehm or Adelman, which are also great nurseries. I have only owned this house for four year so i am buying large numbers of plants quickly so they can get established and I do not have to wait so long for them to develop! Will definitely order from Hollingsworth again this fall and so glad they put up a web store.

This is Bartzella I mentioned earlier from Adelman. Got two flowers last year but only one this year - well better than none as until this week I didn't notice a single bud. None of my tree peopnies (which granted are only a couple of years old) bloomed this year though almost all of my herbaceous ones seem to be doing really well - we had a cold and funky winter this year so maybe that had some impact, don't know.
