I'm pretty new to this myself, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm pretty sure that when starting roots in water you should change it out every 2 or 3 days. That's what I have been doing and I haven't had any problems. I also use distilled water from the store. Theres chlorine and all kinds of other stuff in regular tap water that the plants dont like.
