Same here, it did fine from early spring until the humidity hit, then died an agonizing death. I think if you plant it in the fall, you might be able to get it well enough established through the winter to survive through the next summer. Otherwise grow it as an annual in the cooler, drier months.

Same as lavender, it needs to dry out. Plant in cactus mix in a clay pot, and park it under an overhang of your roof - west side would be perfect so it will get sun, but not get rained on and you can control how much water it gets.

Don't ever use that "moisture control" potting soil. It has gel stuff in it that attracts moisture from the air, so in Florida it stays way too wet. (works great for me in Utah, where it's really dry, though)
