I know just what you mean, Steve, and that's what prompted me to give them another chance. I think it's also a good idea to buy them as late in the season as possible. My Heirloom disappointments of years ago arrived in spring. Giving the roses a chance to continue growing at the nursery for a few more months is important, I think. In fact, I prefer to wait until the annual half-price sale in summer. The only time I don't wait for the sale is when I absolutely, positively must have a certain rose that might sell out before the sale.
