Here's some options for your grass situation Rebekah.

1. a hoe
2. grass killer
3. hands Hilarious!
4. grass clippings
5. thick thick layers of ground cover/tarp with a thin layer of grass clippings/wood chips
6. hand rake and hand shovel
7. pulled up weeds

I know there's more, but these should help, hopefully.
Not only people give others signs, but plants do too.
