Miamiu said:Freeze day is coming up on tuesday night. I am seeing temps on weather channel ranging from 28 to 32. I really hope its in the thirty s but the range of the reported temperature bothers me. It could go from an ok night to bad for my hibiscus. I was reading about predicted winters and they were saying it was going to be mild. Wondering if that is going to be a bad prediction? I am looking over all the tarps and covers i have. How is everyone preparing?

Last night the winds kept frost from happening, but tonight the winds won't be as strong and our forecast here is calling for patchy areas of frost from dawn to sunrise tomorrow morning, especially inland areas. I'd cover your plants of concern, even a beach umbrella can work for a tall hibiscus. If potted you can bring them in a covered area. My hibiscus and crotons, and coleus do okay with no cover, if no frost and temps not lower than 36 for too long, like an hour or two, but the temps you state will cause damage to the tips, so, covering would be wise. That said, mine have been through temps that low before, and even though they suffered frost damage, they all came back, none have ever died. Covering does help if is is a short time.
