I am slightly disappointed in the news in Jacksonville lately. They used to talk about frost warnings, or whether, or not there will be frost when a cold front approaches. I have 40 pots I have to move under the house in zone 9a every time frost occurs. I have been reading the forecast discussions on noaa and in the past have mentioned patchy frost. Where is the best place to get frost reports from?

How about Gainesville, are there any stations there you could listen to? Hawthorne is pretty far inland from Jacksonville. We have not really had any temps below 48 at my house. Some folks here swear by Mike's Weather Page but I do not know if he does frost warnings or not.

I share your frustration with the lack of finding frost reports. Most of my plants stay outside, but when we're due for frosty mornings, quite a few, especially Vandas, that hang out in my tree, come into the garage. Even with temps above freezing, I've seen frost form.
If you're able to find a good site, I hope you'll come back and post it. I will try to do likewise. Big Grin

The local Spectrum all day new channel here will show areas that may get frost, so far we have only had one frost morning back in early Dec. they did show it on the news the night before. I'm in zone 9b

@Miamiu, how did you make out last night? The Jacksonville station I watched did issue frost warning for the inland areas.

NOaa finally updated it so I moved my plants. I just wish there was a place that gives advance notice. Sooner than same day. I see right now tonight is going to be 40 and wednesday is going to be 38 in the morning. I will probably keep the plants moved till Wednesday.

Probably a good idea. I've been watching the dew points as well. 42-45 or lower, and I think chances are good for frost. Also taking into consideration wind, and cloud cover. We definitely had a blanket of the stuff this morning. Sure do wish "they" could, or would keep us updated a bit better. Sighing!

You might want to invest in some frost cloth.

I happen to wake up at 4:30am checked the weather and to my surprise there was a frost warning. My plants were back out same day so at 4:30 in the morning I was out covering plants. Checked the weather till 6pm. This warning was a surprise to me. No frost damage though.

I'm in Gainesville and TV20 news (channel 7) is a great weather station. They do say when there is a potential for frost, and are always explaining for people who do not know that it doesn;t have to be 32F to have frost. You can have frost with temps 33-37F if conditions are right

I use my accu weather app on my phone daily and check the highs and lows. I also use My Radar Pro app which I LOVE for its many features and being high def. If it gets to 40 or less I bring in my plants and birds and take measures for cold weather.

Wow if I brought everything in for 40F I would be busy. I never bring anything in until it says below 32 for 4-8 hours.

I grow ultra lowlanders like Nepenthes bicalcarata. One's in recover from cold burns from leaving it when it got to 40. Anyway the apps are a great thing.
