My hubby has drilled holes on ceramic glazed containers using a ceramic masonry drill bit with a diamond tip. He says when drilling, it is better if possible, to have the container in a vise grip or make sure it does not go wobbly while drilling otherwise it might break. Recently we bought ceramic dipping dish and he drilled it so I can put my new little succulents Big Grin He drills the pot from the outside.

I use either cut out landscape fabric or pre-cut plastic pot mesh from Daiso stores, or pre-cut screen mesh from OSH hardware to cover the holes. If the container is too pretty to drill, I just use it as exterior pot and have a slightly smaller inner pot that has holes where the plant is potted in.
