I gave up on the coffee filters to hold the soil in the pot. They don't last long. DH drills holes in the plastic ones, but I'm not about to let him try ceremic ones. The colorful material they use on bunches of cut flowers seem fairly strong and I'm going using that in the bottom of my pots. I usually have him drill several small holes.
