I'm zone 9b, and the one that does well here is the Muhly Grass, they plant it in the roadway medians in full sun. It is pretty in the fall when back lit by the sunrise or sets, they cut it to the ground in late winter and it comes back. I see a lot of purple fountain grass too, but I personally have tried it a couple times and had no luck, I think because my garden is too shady.

Gina, this mentions grass for Gainesville gardens, all native.

Only thing that works good in my garden is Flax lily. Whistling
