The entrance for the hose to the barrel is about 6" below the gutter and water tries to seek its own level. I certainly don't think it would be as efficient as a hose through the glazing, but should still work. One of my concerns is putting a hole through the plastic glazing and messing the panel up with a crack. Still in the thinking about how I want to do it phase. I really like the water barrel in the green house since it also serves as a heat sink.
