For me, 'Shipshape' comes up to be as close to a clear medium blue as any. The buds start out as a deep "Blue Ribbon blue" before opening out. This pic makes it look a bit more 'purplish' than it appears in the garden. I really wish that I had a really good bud shot because that IS indeed BLUE.

As for 'no blue flowers', I invite whoever said that to visit my Texas bluebonnets next spring... or just drive along any Texas highway (Ennis, TX is highly recommended!) and see if you still feel the same!
