Thank you very much for the responses! I would be using a French press, which I use anyway, so it would reduce the time spent in the morning - no measuring or waiting for the water to heat.

Yes, it doesn't happen quickly. From what I've read, 12 hours is the standard, and more than 15 hours can lead to bitterness. 12 hours fits my schedule well, get it put in the 'frige while making dinner.

Brenda, I don't think I ever looked at the instructions, LOL! But I have poured boiling water in there many times. I use a teapot to heat the water and sometimes I get busy doing other things and it gets hot enough to whistle.
