Are you saying iced coffee? Where you brew some coffee, cool it down, and make some?

Yes, iced coffee would be the end product, but I was asking about cold brewing the coffee overnight in the 'frige. Then it won't get diluted by adding ice. I'm going to make coffee ice cubes too.

I have cold brewed but find I do not have the time in the morning to do the straining through cheese cloth before work. Easier to just make a pot of coffee strong enough to hold up to a few ice cubes the night before and refrigerate. Another thing I do once in awhile is take my travel mug and fill it about a third filled and put in freezer the night before and just add some more in the morning. I will give it that cold brewed is a little less bitter then reg. coffee .

I don't do that, actually. I probably am going to make some coffee ice cubes now. I make iced coffee just by brewing it, pouring it out in a pot, cooling it down, and adding half n half, brown sugar and regular sugar, and a splash of vanilla. I got that from my dad. he makes the best iced coffee.

But this next time, I'm making coffee ice cubes to see how I like it.

I think that you could probably make cold brew by using the french press method, Tiffany. I have a french press pot and I should give this a try. The instructions for regular brew coffee tell you NOT to use boiling water, just water hot enough to perk the grounds. So with that in mind I think cold water might do the job. I believe the grounds have to sit in order to "brew".

Thank you very much for the responses! I would be using a French press, which I use anyway, so it would reduce the time spent in the morning - no measuring or waiting for the water to heat.

Yes, it doesn't happen quickly. From what I've read, 12 hours is the standard, and more than 15 hours can lead to bitterness. 12 hours fits my schedule well, get it put in the 'frige while making dinner.

Brenda, I don't think I ever looked at the instructions, LOL! But I have poured boiling water in there many times. I use a teapot to heat the water and sometimes I get busy doing other things and it gets hot enough to whistle.

Apparently I don't have a pitcher. Where do they go...? I need to make about 38 oz of coffee @ a time, to fill a 24 oz and 16 oz cup, with a little milk in the big one.

Cold brew is supposed to taste smoother.
But I do not have time. I was planning on testing if I can make double-strength hot coffee in our cafetiere, then adding 50% ice-water to it to make instant-cool coffee. Might also keep a cold cup in the fridge to help (why not, we keep martini glasses in the freezer for better cocktails - priorities!).
But I like the coffee ice-cube idea, instead. Although we have no freezer space (cocktails take priority over coffee), here.

Whoops, I forgot to make ice cubes last week. This week I'll will make some for sure. I only have coffee once or twice a week, so I can make them ahead of time and just leave them in the freezer until I'm ready, right?

correct. I have a separate ice cube maker because my frig doesn't make enough ice and the cubes are small. Just fill plastic bags with the ice cubes and store in the freezer. when I get low on cubes I start making ice again.

I had some iced cold brew in a restaurant a couple of days ago—my ordering choice was influenced by this thread. It was incredibly smooth.

I experimented with cold brew about 30 years ago. The issue I recall is that it's excellent cold but heating for a hot morning mug adversely affects taste.

Interesting! Did you get an additional flavor, or just coffee flavor? Restaurants so often have french vanilla iced coffee. I'll order that for sure.

I will (theoretically...) be drinking mine cold.

Lovely deep rich flavor but very smooth with no acid or bitterness. I imagine the flavor depends on the roast and blend.

Not a fan of flavored coffee so can't comment on that.

I know this may come as a shock, but I don't like Starbucks coffee. It gets WAY too sweet and I can't really taste any coffee. Now Scooters on the other hand is just delicious. An amazing coffee taste, still sweet but not too sweet.

Don't they make the coffee to order at Starbucks? Never heard of Scooters.

I've had Starbucks (plain, my usual way) coffee twice, once in Chicago and once in NOLA, and both times it was the worst coffee ever, worse than any gas station, break room, or icky hotel "continental breakfast" pot. If people think that is what coffee should taste like, my taste buds feel sorry for their taste buds. No wonder they're adding sugar.

Frappuccino in a bottle is great, and definitely sweet, yummy!! But when they got ridiculously expensive, I quit buying them as an occasional substitute for making a coffee @ home.

They're brilliant though, making coffee into such a "thing" all of a sudden. I can remember coffee being 25¢ with free refills, most places.

Oh good! I'm glad someone agrees with me. There are many girls I know/knew that gush over Starbucks, but I really don't find the appeal at all. I really do like making my own coffee in general, but I'm always willing to have Scooters too. Bonus for making my own coffee is that it's super low in calorie as well.
As far as making the coffee to order…even when I would ask for something specific, it would be too sweet. I tried it off the menu too. Nope. It was still not very good.
