This may not be any use to you, but this is the first year I've ever had really good, strong sunflowers. I threw some birdseed on top of a pile of soil from the greenhouse, that the cats had been using for litterboxes. Two volunteer zucchini and a huge Chinese lantern are also thriving there. The buckwheat I sowed to cover it is not thriving.
Behind every opportunity is a disaster in waiting.
