Like Linda said, full sun, maybe try a little place in a raised bed or somewhere the soil is rich, and where you will be watering regularly ...if you haven't tried that.
Linda, I think you will love having chickens! It took me awhile before I realized why those hens were so relentless to get in the garden until I watched them go straight for the purslane! After that, the cucumbers! Ha!
