Th tomato soap is made by puree tomatoes as the liquid. The tomato's sugar content with the cream/milk makes it creamy and lathery (made up word).

Because the lye is so hot, it cooks away smell, often color, and (presumably) taste of all of the ingredients in the mixture. There are exceptions (honey retains some scent, oddly), but that's why the essential oils are added at the end when the lye has cooled- it's no longer hot enough to kill the scent. That's also when you'd add other healing oils.
