Hi Sandi, welcome to ATP and thanks so much for that great tip! Now I will definitely be watching and waiting for the next buds on my plant. How wonderful it will be to have one of those fragrant and beautiful blooms to enjoy inside!!
I have Ipomoea alba (Evening Glory) which is also a night bloomer growing up a tree in the side yard. The large white flowers are really pretty and very fragrant, but once again you have to remember to be outside in the late evening and after dark to enjoy them. I also apparently sowed seeds in a container on the back deck and found a bud on it a few days ago. We've been doing some work (dismantling deck rails etc. in preparation for a screen room) and my husband was moving something one afternoon and bumped into the plant and knocked the Evening Glory bud off. I picked it up and threw it into the water behind the deck and a couple of hours later noticed the bud had opened in the water!! I commented to my husband that if I'd known that I would have stuck it in a vase of water ... tonight I'm going to pluck a bud before it opens and put it in a vase!
