We visited Telluride and brought back a few aspen pups and put them into pots. Here we are a few years later and we are finally ready to plant them in the ground. They lasted the deep freeze in above ground pots we had here in L'ville at Christmas (-30*F windchill). They are actually looking great right now and we need them out of the pots.
Question is, since these have rhizomes to propagate, are we ok to plant without a barrier? Will the roots run and cause pups to spring up all over the place? Having dealt with bamboo in a prior life, I am aware of invasive root systems. If aspen trees will spread, I am ready to purchase an 18" 30mil root barrier from Amazon to corral the planted trees. Anyone confirm that I definitely need to do this?
