Orange is a dominant color in lilies. The same phenomenon happened when I crossed the yellow L. leichtlinii and (orange) L. maculatum. And the resulting flowers were even a darker orange than the L. maculatum!

That is the one thing about crossing species: since the original gene pools are relatively homogenous, it takes two or three generations to see good variations.
