I found a number of references to Washingtonias on la Croisette in Cannes, including this one

which says "The Croisette's symbolic species are Washingtonia Californian palm trees and Phoenix date palms." The plants in the picture are not date palms.

I don't think it's particularly easy to tell the two relevant species of Washingtonia apart without seeing their bases, but the database has an entry for the genus, so that would work.

I will let Stefan decide if he has an opinion on this.
