"I feel sorry for amateur photographers like me who don't stand a chance against people with $1000+ cameras. That's why I feel that a lot of the photo contests are unfair to people who can only use their phones or simple digital cameras."
Isn't that a bit like saying, "It's not fair I didn't win the foot race, everyone else had better shoes than I did." Photography seems to be more about composition and focus than anything else to me. I'm not great at it, but I keep trying. I mostly use an inexpensive camera and sometimes get a great shot. Don't give up.
