Sorry, but I have no experience with this particular Coreopsis, but I have grown several that are not yellow. One was a pink one, and although perennial, it did not come back for me the second year, and I have tried one or two others that were not yellow, with no reappearance. I grow one that is yellow but with a deep red center, and it's been around for years. I am always amazed to see it. As for zones, I live in Zone 6b, and I often try plants that are a zone removed from what is specified, and I usually have very good luck. If you look around at different nurseries selling plants, their descriptions for the same plants often list different zones, and it's confusing, to say the least. I like to find out for myself, so I grow plants that are not recommended and grow them sometimes in shade when a spot in the sun is not available, etc. That's what makes gardening interesting, and that's how I learn.
