Hmm! If it were Texas, I would ask if they grow tender crops in midsummer, in the shade. But I'm guessing that Ontario does not have scorching summers with intense sun.
I wonder if the solar collectors could have been spaced differently, and support thin-walled greenhouses for extending the season for early spring and late fall crops? I've ready that a double or triple layer of plastic film lets them grow lettuce in mid-winter in Maine.
Maybe the Connecticut River valley could use solar collectors to create shade for their cigar-wrapper-tobacco industry. Right now they have miles of filmy gauze tents.
