Carolyn: I don't think there's anything anyone can do to keep a plant from doing what it wants to do naturally. I have a very old Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' (A/K/A Krimson Princess): Krimson Princess Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Rubra') originally was totally variegated, but over the years it reverted to the solid green.
