Patent documents aren't filled out by botanists, Joanne, so don't look to them as a guide. Use whatever seems best to you. I personally wouldn't put anything on the species line for anything that isn't a species Petunia. We know most Petunias are hybrids, just as we know most roses are. I don't think that information is crucial except in the case of species Roses and Petunias.
