Can't help about the ants, sorry.
My experience in moving plants thru and to 3 different states within 3 years is that they will take a beating/go into shock during the actual moves. Since it already looks established, let it make it to its final home and then think about repotting. Generally I think roots coming out at the bottom of pot, exposed roots at top of soil line or water running out of the pot as you are watering (no absorption) indicate need for repotting.
