Here it is, Tee: Grant Wood lived and worked in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. That's only about 25 miles from where I live in Iowa. He even painted a number of scenes here in the Amana Villages. The plant he used in the painting was his mother's. His sister got a start of the plant and later passed it on to Esther Armstrong, the wife of a department store owner in Cedar Rapids, who hired Grant Wood to design and build some of her furniture. I think she had also bought some of Wood's paintings. Esther passed on a start to Joan Liffring Zug Bourrret, a well-known Iowa photographer and publisher, who passed it on to Peter Hoehnle, a local historian. Peter passed a start on to me. I've since passed a start on to a gardener in California.
