I have tried to grow a few different palms from seed Arif, I had some very nice Trachycarpus wagnerianus and Washingtonia filifera along with a few others. Many didn't get far as they don't like our indifferent summers, W. filifera grew well for a start but started to suffer over winter. T. wagnerianus did OK until winter 2010/11 which killed them. The only palm which is reliably hardy here is T. fortunei, I planted one in the ground when it was about 6 years old. It was damaged after winter 2010/11, I had to trim most leaves off as they were badly scorched and even new leaves came out partly scorched but it lived! It looks fine now, the trunk is broad but it doesn't race off at the foot a year as I have heard it can. It's around 13-14 years old now. It has a very fibrous stem.
